One Week Down. One Hundred and Twenty Four to go!
My master’s program started this last week and I now have 1 class under my belt. Overall the class was interesting. We are studying the Laws and Ethics in the Helping Professions and I felt much more engaged than I thought I would for a Laws and Ethics class. My professor is knowledgeable, straightforward and has a good sense of humor. And my cohort seems excited, smart and energetic as well.
The hardest part of the class is that it is 6 hours long. The way our class is set up is that every semester we take one class. Each class is 5 weeks long and includes a 6 hour Thursday class each week and 2 6 hour Saturday classes mixed in, for a total of 7 meetings of each class in a 5 week period. The time goes by quick, which is great. But with so much information being presented, I have to study like I never have before (which is not hard since I was a bad student previously, and rarely studied). This class requires reading of a couple chapters each week and then in class I am focusing on taking diligent notes. This will not only help me for this class, but my hope is to create a study guide to keep with me to continuously study, to be as prepared as I can for my licensing exam in a few years.
Aside from my going back, my kids have also started on their 2nd week of school, and my wife is working extremely hard at her business, getting the kids to and from soccer practice, my daughter to cheer practice, feeding our family and making time for us as well. Its unbelievable what a rock star mom and wife she is and how much she is doing to make everything possible.
I will keep you all updated on my course as I continue, as well as other things pertaining to my life. Feel free to say hi below, or let me know what you want to hear about. Thanks for the love and support!
Its that time of year where every kid is dreading going back to school. The summer is over which means pool parties and sleepovers in the middle of the week are no more. Instead of road trips to the beach or amusement park, kids will now be learning about math and reading. For most kids this is the worst part of the year, however, for their parents, the fun is just beginning.
For most of us, we are exhausted from the endless fun parade the summer brings for our kids and are just ready to have them back at school and out of the house for a little. This year however, brings something new and adventurous for me: I am finally going back to school as well! Earlier this year I was accepted into the University of San Francisco Masters in Counseling Psychology program, continuing me on this journey I shared with you all not too long ago. Yesterday was orientation and next week is my official first day, in which I will be learning about the Laws and Ethics of being a therapist. So while our kids are dreading going back to school, I could not be more excited (although my bank account and the part of my anxiety that watches over my finances is having a heart attack).
I hope to be better about updating here and sharing my journey… we will see what time allows. Until then, please be sure to say hello down below or share your experiences as well.
I am finishing up my 2nd week of school and I have to say, life has gotten CRAZY! The first week of school, I was only attending one class (and by attending it is all online). This was a good entry for me as I was working on getting all of my classwork done while I also kept up with my job, and also making time for my kids at home. For this first week, I was not able to attend the gym as I still was not too sure how to balance my life.
This week, I unfortunately received an email from my second professor that my other class, Abnormal Psychology, had already started and I missed my first assignment. How could this be? I have been logging in weekly to check for updates as well as monitoring my email and I saw nothing… oh well. I was not dropped and I missed my first assignment (which was an introduction of myself) and missed out on 10 points. I should have been better about checking or perhaps sent out a n email to inquire when the class actually began. I have already started the homework for this week, and I was not dropped, so I should be fine. This was in line with the rest of my week however, as it was just crazy and hectic.
Wanting to start getting a better routine and schedule together, I opted to start going back to the gym this week as well, as I needed an outlet for stress release. This means either my mornings or late evenings are spent at the gym, the core of my day is at the office, and then at night I come home to spend time with my kids, put them to bed and then either do homework or go to the gym (if I had not gone in the morning). This doesn’t include time for me to go to therapy, chiropractor, or time for leisurely activities such as reading or watching some TV to relax, or time to deal with personal issues. As class picks up, I am sure I will have some weeks where I am overloaded and extremely busy and my anxiety soars through the roof. However, I am determined to get myself into a better routine and it will make it all easier. I just have to keep reminding myself why I am doing this 🙂 !
